Last week we got to sit in on one of the Tough Mudder Team’s stretching sessions which they do each day in preparation for their upcoming race to help prevent injury and muscle strain. Some of their favourite stretches include the Seated Twist Stretch, the Cross Body Stretch, the Standing Calf Stretch and the Cobra Stretch.

This week we caught up with some of the Mudders for a quick Q and A about how they’re feeling about the upcoming race and to see how their final preparations are going.

    Michael

Q: Have you ever done the Tough Mudder Mud Run before?
A: No. I joined this year because I thought it would be a fun way to challenge myself and force me to go to the gym.

Q: How are you preparing?
A: I’ve been going to the gym during my lunch break.

Q: What Obstacle are you most excited for?
A: The Snot Rocket which is where participants hop into deep water with limited space for oxygen and have to crawl through a waterlogged tube.

Q: What obstacle do you think will be the most challenging?
A: I think the hills in general will be my most challenging obstacle.

Eric

Q: Have you ever done the Tough Mudder Mud Run before?
A: No. I decided to join the Tough Mudder Mud Run because I wanted to get involved at the office and get to know new people.

Q: How are you preparing?
A: I bought new shoes and began training on the treadmill and running hills.

Q: What Obstacle are you most excited for?
A: The Arctic Enema where participants slide head-first into ice water.

Q: What obstacle do you think will be the most challenging?
A: I haven’t looked into the obstacles too much because I want them to be a surprise on the day of the run.

Q: Have you ever done the Tough Mudder Mud Run before?
A: No, I haven’t. I like the team building and fitness aspects, so I decided to join this year.

Q: How are you preparing?
A: I’ve been walking a lot, at least 2 miles each day. I’ve also been running the stairs at the Western stadium.

Q: What Obstacle are you most excited for?
A: I’m most excited for the finish line and water stations.

Q: What obstacle do you think will be the most challenging?
A: The Block Ness Monster, where participants (along with the help of their team) roll through rotating barriers!

Goran

Q: Have you ever done the Tough Mudder Mud Run before?
A: Yes. It’s a goal that I set each year. You push yourself and you’re stronger for it afterwards. It also gets easier to do each time.

Q: How are you preparing?
A: I have been training regularly at the gym, including setting the treadmill to an incline and walking for long periods of time. I’m not worried about obstacles because they act as breaks!

Q: What Obstacle are you most excited for?
A: The Stage 5 Clinger which is a 45 degree wall that participants scale using their upper body strength. I’ve never done that one before. Also The Mud Mile which is the first obstacle of the race where you get completely covered in mud.

Q: What obstacle do you think will be the most challenging?
A: The Hero Carry, participants carry another team member through this stretch of the race. That or The Arctic Enema because it hurts the most and is super cold which locks up your muscles while you try to pull yourself out of this cold pit of water.

Bryan

Q: Have you ever done the Tough Mudder Mud Run before?
A: No, I joined because I wanted to strengthen team bonds and get involved at the office.

Q: How are you preparing?
A: I’ve done an 8 week workout program to prepare.

Q: What Obstacle are you most excited for?
A: The Block Ness Monster.

Q: What obstacle do you think will be the most challenging?
A: The Funky Monkey, where participants navigate through monkey bars and rotating wheels because you solely rely on your upper body strength.

Kate

Q: Have you ever done the Tough Mudder Mud Run before?
A: No, but I joined this year because I wanted to join in on this company event!

Q: How are you preparing?
A: I’ve been running, playing soccer and baseball, and doing strength training to prepare for the run.

Q: What Obstacle are you most excited for?
A: The Rub and Tug which is where you swing across a far down drop on rings!

Q: What obstacle do you think will be the most challenging?
A: Electroshock Therapy which is right at the end of the race; hanging wires shock participants with 10,000 volts before they reach the finish line.
